Same Day Replacement AvailableWater Heater Installation & Replacement In Pasadena, CA
Tank and tankless units supplied and fitted, old ones removed, and the venting, seismic strapping, and expansion tank done to code rather than skipped.
Water pooling under the tank? Shut it off now
Close the cold inlet valve on top of the heater and switch the power or gas off at the unit. A tank leaking from the body will not stop, and a full tank holds forty gallons or more. If you smell gas instead, leave the building and call SoCalGas on 1-800-427-2200 from outside.
No Hot Water Is Not
Always A Dead Heater
A gas unit with a pilot that will not stay lit often has a failed thermocouple, which is a part rather than an appliance. An electric unit gone cold overnight is frequently one of two elements. And a tank that runs lukewarm by the second shower is usually sediment stealing half the capacity, not a unit at the end of its life.
ProFix Emergency Plumbing handles water heater installation in Pasadena along with repair and replacement across the San Gabriel Valley, including Altadena, Arcadia, and Glendale.
Water escaping from the body of the tank is the one symptom with no repair. Everything else gets diagnosed before we quote, and you hear what the part costs before you hear what a new unit costs.
Pilot will not stay lit?
Worth knowing before you shop for a new unit. That fault is a part on most gas heaters. Tell us the model and we will say what it needs.

Leak DetectionGas Supply For A New Unit
A tankless upgrade often needs a larger gas line than a tank ever did. That pipework is checked and sized before the unit is ordered.
Gas Line ServicesOut Of Hours Failures
A tank that split overnight, a flooded garage, or no hot water on a trading morning. Lines answered 24 hours.
Emergency PlumbingSix Signs Your Heater
Is On Its Last Year
A tank rarely fails without notice. Replacing one on a Tuesday afternoon costs less than replacing one at midnight with a flooded garage.
-
Rusty or brown hot water
The tank lining has gone and the steel underneath is corroding. No repair for that.
-
Rumbling or popping noises
Sediment baked onto the bottom of the tank, with the burner firing through it.
-
Hot water runs out faster
Sediment has taken a chunk of the usable capacity. Flushing sometimes recovers it.
-
Damp or rust at the base
Water from the body of the tank means the tank. Plan the replacement now.
-
Pilot or burner keeps going out
Often a thermocouple, which is a part. Worth checking before you buy anything.
-
Twelve years or more on the label
Past that age, a planned swap beats an emergency one every time.
Tank vs
Tankless
Tankless is the better appliance and it is not the right answer for every house. What decides it is usually the gas line and the venting route, not the brochure.
Tankless Suits You If
Your supply and venting can take it, and you plan to stay.
- Hot water that does not run out mid shower
- Twenty years of service rather than ten to twelve
- Wall mounted, so a garage or closet gets its floor back
- Lower running cost, since nothing is kept hot overnight
- No forty gallons waiting to end up on your floor
Tank Suits You If
You need hot water today, or the upgrade work does not pay back.
- Far lower cost to buy and to fit
- Like for like swap, often finished the same day
- No gas line upsizing or new venting route needed
- Handles several fixtures at once without sizing issues
- Rentals and resales where payback time will not be yours
Sizing also depends on how many fixtures run at once and how cold the incoming supply is. The figures above are a starting point, not a quote.

Water Heater Installation
And Repair In Pasadena, CA
Water Heater Installation Services In Pasadena
ProFix Emergency Plumbing provides water heater installation in Pasadena for homes, rentals, and small commercial premises across our full service area. A water heater is the one appliance in the house that is also a pressure vessel, which is why installation is plumbing work rather than a delivery. Strapping, venting, the temperature and pressure relief discharge, and the expansion tank all exist for a reason, and all of them get skipped by someone cutting a price.
Water Heater Replacement And Removal
Most replacements are straightforward swaps finished in a few hours, including draining and carrying out the old unit. Where the previous install was done badly, we will point that out and quote the correction separately rather than burying it in the total. The common ones are missing or single strapping, a T and P discharge running to nowhere useful, and flexible gas connectors used where rigid pipe belongs.
Tankless Water Heater Installation
Tankless units are a genuine upgrade and they are not a straight swap. A tank might run on a half inch gas line while a tankless unit of the same output wants three quarters, and the venting is different as well. Anyone quoting a tankless conversion without looking at the gas supply and the vent route is quoting the appliance and nothing else. Where the gas line needs upsizing, that work comes under gas line installation.
Water Heater Repair In Pasadena And Altadena
Plenty of calls for a new heater turn out to be a repair. Pilots that will not stay lit, electric elements that have burnt out, thermostats out of calibration, and gas valves that have failed are all parts rather than appliances. What is not repairable is water coming from the body of the tank. Once the inner shell has corroded through, the unit has reached the end regardless of its age.
Sediment, Hard Water, And Why Flushing Matters
Local water leaves scale, and scale settles in the bottom of a tank. That layer insulates the water from the burner, so the unit works harder, runs noisier, and delivers less hot water than the label claims. A yearly flush with an anode rod check is the cheapest maintenance in the house and it adds years to a tank. On a tankless unit, descaling does the same job and the manufacturer usually requires it for the warranty.
Water Around The Heater
Water on the floor is not automatically a dead tank. It can come from the cold inlet or hot outlet connection, the drain valve, the T and P relief discharge doing exactly what it should, or condensate from a high efficiency unit. Each of those is a repair. Where the source is not obvious, leak detection settles it, and where the supply pipework itself has failed, pipe repair comes first.

Questions Before
You Book
A tank unit runs eight to twelve years as a rule, and a tankless unit closer to twenty. Hard water shortens both, and a tank that has never been flushed sits at the lower end of that range. The date is usually encoded in the serial number on the label, and we can read it off for you on a visit.
Repair a unit under about eight years old where the fault is a part, such as a thermocouple, an element, a thermostat, or a gas valve. Replace one that is leaking from the tank body, producing rusty hot water, or past twelve years with a significant fault. Water from the tank itself is the one case with no repair option at any age.
In a house you plan to stay in, with a gas supply that can feed it, usually yes. It lasts roughly twice as long, costs less to run, and never runs out. The honest caveat is the install cost, because an upsized gas line and a new vent route can add a substantial amount on top of the appliance. In a rental or a house you are selling, that money rarely comes back to you.
Forty to fifty gallons covers most three and four person households, and the table above sets out the usual ranges. What matters as much as the number of people is how much runs at once. Two showers plus a dishwasher is a different demand from the same household using one fixture at a time. If your current tank runs short, going up a size is often the whole fix.
A like for like tank swap takes two to four hours including draining the old unit and taking it away. A tankless conversion runs most of a day, longer where the gas line or the venting needs work. Add half an hour or so after either before the water is properly hot.
Yes. California requires tank water heaters to be braced against earthquake movement, with strapping at two points on the upper and lower third of the tank. It also comes up on home inspections, so an unstrapped heater becomes a problem at sale time as well. Every tank we fit is strapped as standard, and we will correct a single strap on an existing unit while we are there.
